Police outside the fire damaged Elorac Place
Officials at community centre Elorac Place have vowed to start again following a fire which destroyed the Carole Park facility.
The blaze tore through the Brisbane City Council-owned building in Southampton Rd last Wednesday, temporarily ending a range of activities including toddler gymnastics and a food bank.
But the Community Action in Carole Park group, which leases the building, hopes to resurrect each of the services after being offered the use of the nearby Department of Communities' food shed.
State MP for Inala Annastacia Palaszczuk and Brisbane City Councillor Milton Dick (Richlands) have called on the community to donate goods to the centre.
``The sad thing is where all the community activities happen has been destroyed,'' Ms Palaszczuk said.
``We really need the community to rally together to see if we can get back the equipment which has been lost.''
Community Action spokeswoman Bernadette Pitman, said the damage was painful.
``I think it's devastating to the Carole Park community,'' she said. ``It's a great asset and resource for them.''
Also upset at the loss is Carole Park mum Amanda Edge, whose children Jaden, 3, and Bayley, 2, attended the Tuesday playgroup and Eloractive Kids on Thursdays.
Mrs Edge said she would also miss the cheaper groceries she bought from the Food Shed.
Police are investigating the fire which broke out at 3am.
They said wheelie bins outside the building were set alight and flames spread, causing the roof to collapse.
