Nurses say they have made some progress with the Queensland Government over the health pay bungle following last night's talks with Premier Anna Bligh.

Ms Bligh has promised extra help to nurse managers doing rosters at Brisbane's Prince Charles Hospital, which affects the payroll.

Queensland Nurses Union (QNU) secretary Gay Hawksworth says the improvements should help.

"There were a number of measures implemented, including getting some assistance for the nurse unit managers who are struggling with ensuring that the rosters are correct, which is added to their workload extensively, and they make sure people are paid," she said.

But the QNU says casual staff will not return until the payroll problems are fixed.
