Nine chooses The Voice over French Open final

TENNIS fans wanting to catch the gripping conclusion of the rain delayed French Open Tennis final between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic had better find a friend with pay-TV after the Nine Network revealed it will not screen the conclusion of the match tonight.

Fox Sports will carry the delicately poised match live from 9pm tonight, however a spokesman for the Nine Network said its shared rights with Fox did not extend to tonight and the network was not willing to negotiate a one off deal to carry "half a final".

Nine has chosen to prioritise the high rating reality show The Voice over its coverage of the French Open.

The spokesman said Nine would have considered paying for a broadcast extension if an Australian was in the final.

The match was suspended with the scores finely balanced and Nadal leading two sets to one over a surging Djokovic.

Djokovic is seeking to make history by becoming the first man in 43 years to win four consecutive Grand Slam titles while Nadal is attempting to become the first man to win seven titles at the tournament.

The network said it would run a highlights package at a time to be determined.
