Indonesian President Joko Widodo. |
If the Australian Prime Minister were fair dinkum about trying to save the Bali Nine pair Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran, he would jump on the first plane to Indonesia and demand a meeting with the President Joko Widodo to personally plead for clemency.
I'ts OK to do all the pleading via Australian TV cameras but a face-to-face meeting with the Indonesian President can do no harm and might just be what is needed to prove to the President that Australia is serious and genuine about this issue.
The Bali Nine pair deserves lengthy jail sentences but the death penalty is something Australia has long-opposed for Australian citizens in other countries.
